Partner makes presentation on international contracts. This past January of 2008, partner Alejandro Osuna participated as a speaker at a seminar on International Contracts and Arbitration, organized by the Institute of Legal Research of the National Autonomous University. His presentation was entitled The Mexican Judiciary's interpretation of the United Nation's Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. It was a discussion on the ambiguous reception this treaty has gotten from Mexican Judges, who have failed to take into account its "international character, the need to promote its uniform interpretation, and the promotion of good faith in international trade. This is very Unfortunately for Mexican lawyers and their clients, who will face up-hill battles when filing suits in Mexico to effect collections on accounts owed by Mexican buyers. It was not a first for this Tijuana Lawyer. He has participated as speaker in numerous events in Baton Rouge, Vienna, Puerto Rico, Mexico City, Monterrey, San Diego, among other cities.

Main Areas of Practice
What we do
Osuna & Rivero was formed with a view to providing cost
effective legal services, to a demanding international
business community.
As a Tijuana Law Firm located south of San Diego,
California, we have frequent contact with clients and Counsel
from the United States, which gives us a regional insight
regarding the needs for this market. We also work with other
Mexican Law firms located in other cities in Mexico.
We strive in helping Mexican and non-Mexican corporations
in reaching their business goals, by providing them with a
broad range of legal services, such as creating Mexican
corporations, drafting commercial contracts, advising them in
real estate law, and providing them with effective
representation in complex litigation, including commercial
arbitration.
While some Mexican law firms consider size as their sales
pitch, we focus on specialization. Nobody knows international
contracts better than we do, and we have the track record to
prove it. In fact, we are often consulted by large practices to
take advantage of our areas of expertise, such as arbitration,
and our knowledge of international commercial law.

Japan signs on to the Sales Convention Japan has signed and ratified the Convention on the International Sale of Goods, making it the 71st Contracting State. This is great news to companies doing business with Japanese counterparts, since it will provide certainty to issues such as contract formation, rights and obligations of the parties, and damages, among others.
For over 25 years the Sales Convention has been in force, bringing about better definition as to rights and obligations of the parties involved in international trade, generating a wealth of case law, and writing on this important subject.
